Why my internet connection disconnected when I install belkin bluetooth usb adapter?

I bought Belkin Bluetooth USB adapter and after installing it, my internet, Local Area Connection, didn’t work anymore.
I uninstall Belkin Bluetooth but still my internet didn’t work. After spending 7 straight hours, I finally was able to connect to internet by uninstalling verizon DSL and installing it back. At first reinstalling DSL didn’t work but for some miraculous reason it worked after my 5th or 6th try to install it.

So, my question is what’s the problem. One thing, I WILL NOT install belkin bluetooth again on my computer. I was lucky the last time.

Do you think getting other bluetooth usb adapter won’t have problem with my internet connection? Supposedly, belkin bluetooth was the best and it cost $39.99.
All I want to do is to transfer music, a couple of ringtones, from my pc to my cellphone. What do you think I should do?

Thanks

This is a very curious predicament. I haven’t heard of installing a Bluetooth adapter causing trouble with the LAN or Internet connectivity. I’ve used them on more than one computer and never had an ounce of trouble.

It shouldn’t matter which brand you use at all. Does your DSL modem also plug into USB?

I wonder if the USB array ran low on voltage and caused trouble in that case. But you mentioned the Local Area connection as well, which leads me to believe that somehow your Ethernet port was knocked out when this USB device was installed.

Does anything else on your computer plug into the USB ports? It could be an issue with voltage and the motherboard as it’s related to powering devices over the built-in USB connections.

One remedy for this would be to purchase a powered external USB hub for connecting things like Bluetooth. That way the data connection is all that’s used, but the power for the ports comes from an external adapter instead of your computer’s power supply.

Some machines are finicky about the power staying plugged in for your Ethernet connection to work. Is it possible that the power to the laptop came undone while you were working on the Bluetooth installation, and the Ethernet turned off until the power was plugged back in?

Our Dell laptops are snarky that way. If you unplug from the wall, they figure your Ethernet should be turned off, too, so they power down the port until your AC power is restored.

Have to correct that one in the Quickset utility.

Anyway — you should be able to use what you want of Bluetooth adapters. But if you’re concerned about the motherboard, you can always try an external *powered* USB hub. They’re around $20.

Good luck!
