ringtones on iphone itunes 8

Iphone Ringtones Itunes Help?

I have a Iphone 3gs, I have itunes 8.2.2 or just 8.2, not sure. Trying to convert my songs into a ringtone. I already turned the m4a into a m4r, but when i drag the new m4r file to my library, it’s not in my ringtones file. I have kept tryin with many different songs, did a new file and everything, still wont work. Any suggestions?
